I’ve just completed the score for a brand new Imax Giant Screen documentary titled, ‘Earth Story’. Born from dying stars, the Earth was sculpted by violent collisions in space and, in an epic journey, this hostile ball of molten rock transformed itself into a nurturing environment where forms of life emerged. Following a team of adventurous geologists, we travel from the Pilbara in Western Australia to the epic landscapes of Iceland to find the origins of life.

The score; a diverse mix of Icelandic rock, classical piano trio, electronica & orchestral, guitars in the desert, and punk rock….!

Coming to Imax cinemas around the world soon!

Doctor Blake Mysteries signs with Channel 7 for 2018

The number one Australian drama finds a new home on Seven.

(29 October 2017) Channel Seven is thrilled to confirm it becomes the new home of number one Australian drama, THE DOCTOR BLAKE MYSTERIES, in 2018.

Life in Space and beyond…

Finally got to see and hear the Imax film I scored late last year at the Melbourne premiere late March, and it was very cool hearing my music with Malcolm McDowell’s voice narrating the story! Life is Space is currently screening in the UK, Denmark, U.S.A., Canada and Australia.

I’ve also just finished a fascinating documentary titled, My Mother’s Lost Children, which will screen later this year on the BBC and hopefully get into a few film festivals along the way. Most of the scoring was for a small ensemble of woodwinds, strings and piano, with some other percussive and pad elements in the mix. It’s a film with many layers, just like an onion, and will probably bring you to tears of sympathy, frustration, or both!

The Doctor Blake Mysteries is in hybernation mode, after being axed by the ABC here in Australia; it’s top rating show, averaging 1.6 million viewers a week (high numbers for any network here in Australia)….there’s a telemovie being discussed and possibly other news as well.

Meanwhile, I’m really looking forward to commencing Jeff Daniel’s insightful new documentary about Collingwood footballer, Heritier Lumumba, for SBS and Nick & Eleanor’s (Waterbyrd Films) feature length documentary on MAMILS…should be fun!

‘Blinky Bill’ Gets U.S. Release Via Shout! Factory

Blinky Bill: The Movie, which was produced by Studio 100’s Sydney based animation studio, Flying Bark Productions, is getting a theatrical release in North American, courtesy of Shout! Factory and 100 Film. Their rights to the film also include broadcast, video-on-demand, digital and home entertainment rights for cross-platform releases. The film will be released first in the U.K. in August and then in the U.S. in September.

The family film features the voice cast of Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Rufus Sewell (The Man in High Castle), Toni Collette (Little Miss Sunshine), David Wenham (Lord Of The Rings), Deborah Mailman (Rabbit-Proof Fence), Richard Roxburgh (Moulin Rouge, Maya the Bee –  Movie), Robin McLeavy (Hell on Wheels), Barry Otto (The Great Gatsby) and Barry Humphries (Finding Nemo).

The film is about the little koala with a big imagination who is an adventurer at heart and dreams of leaving the little town of Green Patch and following in his missing father’s footsteps.

The family film was directed by Deane Taylor and co-directed by Alexs Stadermann from a script by Fin Edquist. It was produced by Barbara Stephen and executive produced by Hans Bourlon, Paul Cummins, A.K. Madhavan, Emily Price, Brian Rosen, Gert Verhulst and Jim Ballantine.

Season 5 commissioned

The ABC has commissioned The Doctor Blake Mysteries for a fifth series.

Starring Craig McLachlan as police surgeon, Dr Lucien Blake, and Nadine Garner as his devoted housekeeper Jean, The Doctor Blake Mysteries continues to attract a large audience.

ABC Director of Television Richard Finlayson said Series four had been the most successful to date with an average audience of 1.67 million viewers across TV broadcast and iview.

“Doctor Blake satisfies an appetite for engaging, home grown stories,” he said.

Series Co-creator and showrunner, George Adams, said December Media was elated to be returning to 1960s Ballarat, “once again to bring our loyal audience more tales of murder, mystery, mayhem and a wee bit of love with Blake, Jean and all our favourite characters.”

Series five will see Doctor Blake facing mysteries on every front, from the boxing ring to the vineyards of Victoria, from Gypsy camps to the Debutants Ball.

Loyalties will be tested, friendships will be strained and faiths will be challenged.

Will Blake and Jean finally find the happiness they so richly deserve? And can they then survive the return of an avenging nemesis from the recent past?

The fifth series of The Doctor Blake Mysteries will be filmed later in the year and air on ABC TV in 2017.
