THE WAY HOME – WORLD PREMIERE

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

World premiere at FLICKERFEST – Best of Documentary Shorts 1

Director: Stefan Bugryn Editor: Steven Zelko Composer: Dale Cornelius

Synopsis: After Stalin ordered the forced collectivisation of all the farms in 1930s Ukraine, Maxim, a humble cucumber farmer, rebels. He is arrested by local authorities and shipped off to forced labour camps of Siberia. To survive and return to his family, he steals away in the dead of night and begins the 1,000km journey home.

This was a very special film to work on and was one of the first productions to be filmed in the Ukraine since the war broke out. I hope this film travels internationally to highlight the plight of the Ukrainian people’s independence. I also had the pleasure of recording the amazing ‘white-voice’ Ukrainian vocalist, Alina Savchuk, whose voice is featured in the score, providing a powerful emotional focus in the film’s storyline.

Breakaway Femmes – new Feature Documentary just completed!

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Director Eleanor Sharpe and Producer Nicholas Byrd have brought to life the compelling story of the Tour de Femme, the women’s counterpart to the Tour de France, in their powerful feature documentary. In the 1980s, amidst entrenched French misogyny, these extraordinary athletes battled not only grueling terrain but also systemic sexism, fighting for recognition in a male-dominated sport. Their courageous efforts paved the way for the professional female cyclists we celebrate today.

This is the third film I have collaborated on with Waterbyrd Films and cannot wait to share streaming and screening dates.

Qiddiya IRL Gaming City

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Since 2022 I’ve been composing and creating blue-sky music concepts for this massive ‘giga-project’ in Saudi Arabia.

We have been unveiling four gaming zones (worlds) this year at major gaming conferences, as part of the global IRL Gaming Tour,  in Brazil, Germany, Tokyo and South Korea. My music has been pressed on vinyl as part of the marketing campaign during this tour and we have had live performances with musicians, as well as remixes my original music by some incredible DJ’s around the planet!

In September at Tokyo Game Show (TGS), over 240,000 gaming fans, 3,000 global and local exhibitors from 40 countries, and publishers gathered in the biggest gaming convention in Japan. The first peeks into Qiddiya’s Gaming & Esports District and the lore of the Cyberpunk zone called, UBAR™ were officially revealed in an immersive 1,000sqm booth.

UBAR™ will be the first place in the world that offers a real-world cyberpunk lifestyle – featuring the next generation of gaming, IRL Gaming – in the world’s first city built for play, Qiddiya City in Saudi Arabia. UBAR’s lore is a cybertropolis set in Arab Futurism and gamified as an RPG (role playing game).

Senses of Cinema – Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) 2022

Senses of Cinema Feature Documentary

Co-directed and produced by: John Hughes and Tom Zubrycki

Currently composing the score for this wonderful film about the revolutionary film co-ops in Melbourne and Sydney during the 1960’s and 70’s. This film has left wondering why don’t we have them now?!
“During the 1960s and 1970s, avant-garde and experimental cinema, ‘expanded cinema’ and varying strands of independent filmmaking sought to grow audiences for work unwelcome in public broadcasting and commercial distribution.” article by John Hughes

“…the past 7 months as a sole trader in Melbourne has been challenging and frustrating. Thank you for being a regular calming soundtrack in the home studio/home school room over that time!!”

The Voice of Cycling World Premiere at Adelaide Film Festival 2020

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Great to be involved in another wonderful film by Nicholas Bird and Eleanor Sharpe, with the support of Adelaide Film Festival. It took every ounce of energy by the filmmakers and crew to get this one over the line in time for the festival as we were all dealing with Victoria’s epic lockdown, hence everything needing to be done remotely. The film runs for 114mins and has over 80mins of original score covering some amazing storylines and historical cycling events.

52 weekly improvisations completed!

#52
Well, it’s been an epic journey!
Come rain, hail, shine, pandemic, film projects, family emergencies, colds, birthdays, and Xmas, I’ve stoically, or more likely stupidly, produced a spontaneous improvisation every week; filmed without edits and posted to my YouTube channel as well as Instagram & here on Facebook.
I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to occasionally check in and watch this process unfold. Personally, this weekly exploration & commitment has been many things; cathartic, surprising, challenging, flowing, trickling, joyful and frustrating.
I’m not sure what’s next, but I’m sure my nearest & dearest will not miss this weekly deadline within our house 🙂
This piece feels like the right sign off to me, after 52 weeks of improvisations, hence its title and being performed at a tempo of 52 beats per minute.
Take care out there.

BACKTRACK (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) FINALLY RELEASED! Friday 13th Dec 2019

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

It gives me great pleasure to announce this release of the re-mastered soundtrack to Michael Petroni’s (creator of Netflix’s new series Messiah) thriller/horror feature, Backtrack.

AVAILABLE VIA ALL STREAMING SERVICES

Featuring the City of Prague Philharmonic and soloists. The film stars Academy Award winning actor, Adrien Brody (The Pianist, Peaky Blinders, and The Grand Budapest Hotel) in the lead role, with awesome supporting actors Sam Neill(Jurassic Park, Thor; Ragnarok and Peaky Blinders) and Robin McLeavy(Wu Assassins, Abraham Lincoln, and Hell on Wheels).

Some reviews of the score:

“An amazing music soundtrack…nocturnal and ominous”
Paul Harris, FilmBuffs Forecast

“Excellent work by composer Dale Cornelius”
Godfrey Cheshire, RogerEbert.com

“A superb musical score by Dale Cornelius”
Carolyn McDowall, TheCultureConcept.com

“The score, by Dale Cornelius, keeps the tone richly melancholic and moody”
Ben Spurling, HorrorNews.net

“A particular achievement goes to the music in BACKTRACK from Dale Cornelius, providing a thick, robust injection of moody atmosphere to the film that truly sells the darkness. The score grabs the viewer by the ears and forces us to sit up and take notice right from the opening credits. It makes a statement, declaring something bad will happen and you do not want to miss out.”
Travis Keune, WeAreMovieGeeks.com
